.45-.105 is a good match in my book, but it depends on what you want to feel under your fingers. And when you say round fingerstyle, do you mean Geddy Lee round fingerstyle? If so, Rotosund Swing Bass 66.

Ric ships their new basses with the following;

Round Wound NikL Bass 45-55-75-105

I'm totally loving the tone on my new MG. I had but Ernie Balls on my older 4003 but I'm not convinced I am happy with them there (though on my Geddy Lee J they sound great).

I have a '77 4001 and a couple of modern 4003's. Here's what I've tried:

- Dean Markley Blue Steels on the 4001. These are nice, but not exactly the gauge I wanted. These are still on the 4001.
- RotoSound Swing 66 (years ago) on the 4001. Great sound, but the zing doesn't last long and they are hard on the frets.
- The stock RIC strings on the modern 4003. Pretty good. These are still on my Jetglo 4003.
- Curt Mangan set from Pick of the Ricks on the 4003. Pretty good, comparable to the stock strings.
- Circle K strings on the 4003. Very good.
- RotoSound Swing 66 on the 4003. Good, but not as much zing as I expected. These are currently on my MID 4003.

I'm going to switch back to Circle K strings when the Rotos are tired.

Circle Ks! Or Roto 66 if you can afford to buy new ones every week.

If you want to try a little bit lighter tension, try the 40's set.
