Stock Fender 7250ML vs. DR Low-Rider Nickel

Sign in to disble this ad
My Squire VM Precision (and many Fender and Squire P-Bass's) come stock with Fender Super 7250ML's, which I find too bright and also very rough feeling on my right hand. I'm thinking of replacing them with DR Low-Rider Nickel's and wonder if anyone out there is familiar with both and can weigh in on whether the DR's should be less bright and smoother feeling? I am a beginner on bass (guitar player finding joy in the low-end!) and am really looking for a string that delivers a clean, fundamental sound (i.e. no slapping, etc. as I'm learning the basics). Thoughts?

I've got the Fenders on my Jazz and the DR on my P/J. In my opinion, the Fenders are smoother and less bright.

If you're just beginning, get those callouses built up. Both of these sets of strings are way smoother than most other sets.

The Fender 7150 pure nickel set should fit the bill for you tonally if you feel the 7250s are too bright.

Really helpful steamthief - thanks. I read about the 7150's earlier tonight and was thinking that would be a good place to start too.
