Stock Ibanez Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
What strings come stock on the Ibanez Soundgear series. The strings have black silk at the top and gold balls at the bottom. I know the strings aren't Elixer(they aren't coated) and every person at Sam Ash and Guitar Center was stumpted.

I think the strings that a manufacturer fits are almost for appearance sake, almost intended for disposal.
Companies like Yamaha make fine saxophones, but no-one uses their mouthpieces.
My Ibanez AGB140 came with very ordinary sounding roundwounds, I'd already bought Rotosound flats ready to fit.
No manufacturer could expect to predict the preference of any buyer. Companies that make mouthpieces are like string manufaturers.

Specialists.

My Ibanez came with D'addarios. As far as I know Ibanez supply D'addarios on all their guitars at the moment.

Ibanez seems to be using D'Addario strings on most basses now. This is according to the label dangling from the tuning peg, proudly proclaiming that fact, that I've seen on a number of new Ibanez basses in stores, and on my new Artcore (AGB140)

They may use other strings on the high end stuff. I don't know. I tried a new SRX700 that also had D'Addario rounds even though the website claimed they use Elixers. As far as I know, Ibanez does not manufacture strings. Anyhow, I don't like the D'Addario rounds so I changed them immediately.

I thought about D'addario's but they have different cloured balls at the end and these strings all had gold balls.

No I didn't suggest that Ibanez make strings.
I also didn't suggest Yamaha make the cheap mouthpieces that are sold with their saxophones.
My point is that with an instrument you expect it to be playable. ie with strings to pluck or something to stick in your mouth. Therefore the manufacturer, be it Ibanez, Yamaha or whoever will include that in the 'kit'.
That the said instrument is going to be 'personalised' is taken for granted. The action is going to be modified/strings changed/own mouthpiece used/ grades of reeds etc.

Therefore my last statement was true.
For quality strings go to a specialist.
For quality mouthpieces go to a specialist.

On the subject of gold balls, I wish you all the best.

I bought my GSR200 about two years ago & I didn't know what strings it had. What I knew was that it's most probably steel roundwounds. I remember reading somewhere that Ibanez low end basses are not stringed with Elixirs.

Some people here said D'Addario? I'm not sure. Mine had red silk & metallic ball ends. It sounded very twangy & metallic for my taste. And it took a long time to break in. Once it did, it didn't last very long. I've since changed to Fender nickel roundwounds.
