Stock Ibanez strings circa 2008

Sign in to disble this ad

Sorry for asking this type of question, I know its annoying and I tried searching to the best of my abilities, but im going on one of my rare music store runs soon and im considering buying new strings.

I bought my first bass two years ago (2007-2008) and it was an Ibanez GSR100. A year after that, I bought my first pair of new strings (roto. 66). While attempting to tune my 5 string up, I broke 2 strings within seconds of each other. While looking for a replacement in my old strings pile, the only strings long enough were the ones that came with my Ibanez. I put them on and instead of being greeted by a nasty poo sound, Im greeted by super bright strings that had the tone I was looking for when I bought the rotosounds! Now im about to buy a new bass (complete the trifecta) and would like to have these stock strings on them but I have no idea who makes them. They are not elixers as many people have on their newer Ibanezs' (they feel the same as my other round wounds and havent peeled at all in the past 2 years), but seem like the basic string. No silk at the top or bottom and have a dark silver ball at the anchor end (nickel?). Any ideas what this string could be?

I believe Ibanez stock strings are Elixers. The ones with the nanoweb coating.

Do the ones with the nanoweb coating not have this peel?

My strings have never peeled or anything of the sort in the two years Ive had them
I dont see why Ibanez would use such expensive strings on their cheapest bass either :/
Is it wrong of me to think Elixer=peel, Peel =/= Elixer?

The only time I saw peel that bad was on like a 4 or 5 year old set of strings. If you're really rough on them and/or you have acidic sweat it might come off faster, I noticed peel coming off after only 6 months, but it was no where near that bad.

they use d'addario on cheaper basses and elixir on the more expensive ones, the basses come with the string company tags too iirc

My source was this. I think I was kind of leaning away from the Elixirs because of the price and I havent noticed anything odd about the strings since the two years Ive had them. Elixirs have the silver ball anchor then?

Pretty sure mine had silver ball ends on my Ibanez 5er.

I bought a used SR506 and the peeling was literally that bad on 4 or the 6 strings. Funny thing though, they still sounded good enough to not have to change them.
