My one bass is strung with chrome flats, regular gauge. One of the strings starting acting funny, so I replaced it with a LaBella Deep Talking Flat, standard gauge.
Both strings have about a year of use on them, although the LaBella's have been hanging in the basement for a while.
The LaBella's are very noticeably smoother than the chromes. When you have them side by side you can notice, although it is not as noticeable playing. The tension feels about right.
So I decided to record the intro to Red House by Jimi Hendrix and see if anybody can tell which string is different. So Red House, in B played basically in the 7th position.
The mp3 is about half a meg and is 160Kbps:

It is also available as a wav file that is close to 5M:
ftp://ftp.seanm.ca/bass/red-house.wav
Both files where exported from the same audacity recording.
