String advice

OK, it looks like I'm NEVER going to get my Slowounds.
So I guess I'll experiment...

I'm looking for a really low-brightness. With LOTS of 'crunch-munch'.

Examples.. Mike Dirnt (longveiw)
Stanley Clarke & Les Claypool - Fusion Bass Crunch Time
Chris Squire...

Whatcha think? I have a pretty crap set up, so getting a perfect tone could be hard, but that doesn't matter.

my p-bass copy is a long scale, but I have my new bass coming in next week, and I'm sure it's a short scale. (Gibson Grabber). It is OK to cut the ends off of strings, right?

thanks all

Maybe Rotosound RS-66LDN (Nickel r/w's) would be easier
to find in your area? Or even Pyramid "Pure Nickel" r/w's?

Gibson Grabber is a short scale?

I'll have to agree to the Rotosounds.
