I have a p and a jazz bass. I'm looking to make one flatwound and one for. Roundwound. I have the flat strings I like but now only do I need a good choice of string but also any suggestion which to put on which. I do a lot of tapping salp and play about anything from pop to old metallica

I have DR SUNbeams on my Squier jazz and just put Labella flats on my Squier 50's p. My notion is flats on p because it is limited in tonal range. The jazz is more flexible in tone and the rounds seem to work.

Of course the p is classic for rock and you may like it the other way round. In any case I love both brands. Great feel from both. The Labellas are lower tension than a lot of flats and the flex more like rounds. Both brands are round core wire and quite flexible. Both sound awesome. I am about to switch out my j with DR black beauties. New experience.

you could use flats or rounds on either but what I would do is put rounds on the bass that you use for tapping and faster songs......flats on the more in the pocket bass.

I use Thomastik-Infeld flats on my 4 string j bass and Marcus Miller DR Fat Beams on my 5 string j bass and 5 string Warwick. I switch between the two string types on my squier jag. Both sound great separately or blended on p and j pups on the jag, I still can't believe it's a squier sometimes, though it helped replacing the stock pups with seymour Duncan quarter pounds.

Both sets of strings are incredibly dynamic. Though I primarily play surf music on the flats, I still use that bass to write and play anything ranging from funk to metal. Similarly with the MM DRs, I primarily use those basses for slapping, tapping and cords, I'm able to crawl deep in the pocket with eq adjustments and/or applying a few different effects, primarily envelopes.

Good luck!
