String choice for a P/J?

Sign in to disble this ad
I searched the site first like a good boy, but didn't really find an answer to my question.

Tom Clement is building me a P/J (solid claro walnut body, maple neck and FB, NP5 and Big Split, OBP3).

I'm unsure what strings to use. I'll want a fairly wide range of tonal choices, from a thumpy old P sound to a more punchy slap with the Big Split. Is there a string that does a reasonable job at both ends?

I use Fat Beams, Sunbeams and Labella Flats on other instruments and like them in their specific application, but I'm primarily looking for diversity this time. Suggestions?

Thanks.

All strings can sound great on a bass of qaulity. Its totally personal choice for the tone tweak strings give. Strings Ive tried and liked to one extend or another include: Rotosound swing66, DR neons, GHS boomers, Ernie Ball slinkies. Strings Ive tried and did not like include Daddario & Elixer. Diversity primarilly come from the bass itself via various pup blending and how you set its eq.
