String classification?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can someone please tell me what to call strings that taper to just a chain like core that wraps around the tuning peg? I can't find this information anywhere. I don't mean exposed core at the ball end. I recently changed my strings and the E will not sit right on the tuning peg, creating a weird angle between it and the nut. And it rattles. My old strings were wound just past the nut and then it was just core, I want the same style but a different brand and I don't know what to look for and I buy my strings online so there's no clerk to get advice from. Such a simple question yet I can't find the answer anywhere, plenty of info on flat wound and round wound, tapered etc So please put me out of my misery. Strings that taper to core only at the tuning peg end are called...........

I'm very new to bass playing by the way. Thanks for your help.
