String Gauge for Super low tuining

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Everyone,
I play bass for an Experimental Metal band from India. As we use 8 string guitars, our music is composed on the low F# tuning. Iv been wanting to try out downtuning my bass to the low F# (earlier, my top string would be tuned to G# and the next string would be tuned to F# but on the same octave as the guitars).
I use an Ibanez BTB675 which has a 35" scale.

I'd really like suggestions for a good enough string gauge to handle such a low tuning ...

Thanks.

Might wanna check the Strings forum... Lotsa downtuning info there. I've been asking for an "all things downtuned/detuned/alternate tuned thread" sticky for a bit now but no such luck.

It all depends on the sort of tension you like. The .182 is a good starting point, though! I highly recommend Circle K Strings. I just got a .210 and am using it for Eb0 (D#0).
