String guag?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can any tell me if there is tonal difference between
.045 - .100 and .050 - .105 guages. I have read that the tension is different so it may feel different but not much about tone. Does the .105 have a noticable deeper sound? I am trying to compare Maxima Gold roundwound.Someone gave me a set of .045 - .100. and wanted to get an idea without buying a set of .050 - .100 just to compare.

Thank you,

I haven't noticed any tonal differences, although I suppose some will say they have. Fatter strings will give you more output, but I can't really tell the difference there either.

Tension. That's the noticeable difference.

Fatter strings will give you more thump, punch, and the ability to achieve a lower action because they are stiffer.
Thinner strings will give you a clearer and more defined tone and better intonation.
