String guage

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, i am not new to bass playing, i have been playing for eight years now. but when it comes to strings, i get fuzzy, i tend to turn and run. and i was wondering if anyone could help me. i tend to stick to the largest guage being .105 on my 4 string. i am looking to but a larger guage all together for all 4 strings. i am playing a fender p bass, so theres a standered bridge. does anyone know the largest guage i couldget on there, i had heard .110, but if i could go bigger and not spend a load on multiple sets before any advice comes my way, that would be great.

thankyou, D

Go to juststrings.com and you'll find every brand of string in every guage they sell -- flats and rounds. If heavy guage is what you want for a P bass I'd suggest heavy La Bella flats.

I,ve had Roto 88,s on my P bass and the E string is 115 on that set. So I think you can go larger than 110 on a standard P. If rounds are your thing try EB Power slinkys(55-110) if flats is are what you want definetly La bella, something like 760FM(49-109).

Yeah, it's like a flat ribbon as opposed to a round wire so the string is very smooth.

does it affect the sound that much or is that more opinion. because i love round, and the sound i think is great, while a friend of mine has flat i found, and i tried it and i think its for the birds

ah my real problem.

i know string guages, so i guess my real question is what guage would fit on my standerd bridge, fender by the way. because this lady at a guitar store told me 110 but i have loads of room after that twenty bucks. what are you guys, playing with if your using large guage?
