string for Guild B4CE acoustic/electric

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently acquired a Guild B4CE acoustic/electric bass, which has a short scale length (30.5 in, I think). It came with Rotosound RS77S strings (flatwound jazz electric, monel). I'm not impressed with the strings; they feel loose and floppy, and the sound is weak and muddy, both acoustically and amped. I like flats just fine - I use them on my Jazz - but the Rotosounds don't work for me on the Guild. I'd like to get a decent sound from this box both amped and not amped. What other kinds of strings should I try? Remember, must be short scale. Thanks to all.

I use Tomastik Infield AB344 strings, however the bottom is a 86 so these strings may be a bit too floppy. Is the pick up a bridge transducer or does it have an electro magnetic pick up system, (regular bass guitar pick up)? These strings will only work with a bridge system because the core is nylon and not steel. I have used these strings for years now but if the flop and slop is not what you want, perhaps you should keep looking. Also the accoustic properties of the strings are not so great, meaning a steel core will give more volume.

Gook luck in your search.

The pickup in the Guild B4CE is a Fishman under-the-saddle piezo with onboard EQ and volume controls.

Could you give me a phone number for Matt and/or the name of the shop where you had the work done?

Thanks.
