String help for a nice new bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I purchased got a new 2008 fender american deluxe jazz bass for a great deal. I plan to use the bass to play some slap and pop/funk, praise and worship (Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, etc). The store asked me what type of new strings I wanted with the bass, and I came up with a complete blank. The bass sat in the store for three years relatively unused, so the strings don't have much wear. However, it is hard to pass up a chance to get new strings.

Personally, I would like strings that are good for producing a good funk tone. I have a p-bass with flats that I can use for warm, deeper sounds. Need strings that can produce brighter tones well. I would prefer roundwounds, but am open to anything other than flats.

Any suggestions?

A lot of players like DR Hi Beams for that sort of a tone on a J. They last a long time and are feel great to play.

I find them too bright, especially when new, and prefer Lo Riders, for example, but then again I don't slap and tickle them.

+1

Hi beams if you want more brightness and play finger style

Lo riders if you beat the snot out of it or want a mellower overall sound

I love hi beams.
