string ID -rw w/ no silk winding??

I got a lakland DPLE II secondhand and the strings on it are roundwounds w/ no silk windings on either end. does that narrow it down at all to a particular manufacturer or type of strings? previous owner was uncertain what was on the bass when he sold it.

It doesn't really narrow it down. Whats the gauge and are they nickel or steel?

tough to say--i'd guess a typical .040-.100 set. low tension si I'd guess nickel. Every other set of strings I have have a silk winding--these have none on either end so I thought that might be distinctive on it's own.

Are they tapered core or wound all the way to the ball?

well, it's strung throgh-body so I can't tell definitively, but I believe wound to the ball end

Here are some possibilities...

D'addario - They have different colored ball ends, so they're pretty easy to ID.

DR - Sunbeams maybe? They're roundcore and have a little less tension and a smoother feel than similar roundwounds.

Ernie Ball - Nothing really identifiable about the EBs. You would just have to be familiar with them.

That's all I have for now...

An easy way to check, since its string through, is undoing the G string's tension and looking at the end of it.
