String Issue.

Ok, when I bought my Fender Jazz bass the strings the came stock, felt like the were a medium gauge, I got a free pair of strings with my bass when I got them. I got a pair of Daddario light gauge strings. Now this could be a problem with a saddle itself, but I notice that when I play my G string the depending on which way I pluck it the saddle moves a tiny bit, not much, but it makes nasty noises when the string vibrates. I was wondering if this problem could be remedy with thicker strings, or like I said earlier maybe its the bridge saddle itself.

Does the saddle make a sound kind of like a loose spring? Because that happens sometimes on my MIM Jazz. I don't know why, but I never did get around to asking.

anyway which G were you referring to(brand)? also FYI the stock Fender strings are 45-100's.

I wouldn't say loose spring, more of a squeaky vibration. By G I mean the G string and I'm not very string savvy, so I dont know what that means that Fender stock strings are 45-100. Does that mean there a light, medium, or heavy gauge?

It means they're medium guage.. Anyway forget the other junk I wrote...I guess we can disregard it since the noise isn't the same.

anyways you could probably get the squeak fixed by messing with the screws on the bridge. Just make sure it stays intoned. Maybe you can try putting something under it?

I bought a set of medium gauge strings slapped em on my Fender problem solved(knock on wood, seeing as sometimes it there sometimes it isn't). Although, it could be the fact that there new strings only time will tell, but I'm into funk, and the whole pop and slap thing so, it probably make sense that light gauges just weren't for me....they did come free with my bass though so I can't complain.
