String length for Chromes on through-body PBass

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a MIA PBass (lovin' it BTW!), and put my preferred string, Chromes, on it. This is my first through-body strung bass, and I discovered that the Long Scale Chromes seemed a little short with it strung this way. The cloth windings at the headstock stopped just on top of the nut. I though, "No big deal, I'll just cut the thread back", but I discovered that the taper on the E string started right in the middle of the nut, too. It sounds okay now with no buzzing, but I don't like the idea of the irregular windings at the taper cutting into the nut over time and tunings. Long question short: Do the Super Long Scale Chromes fit nicely on a through-body strung PBass?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, you should have bought the supers. But glad you made these work anyway!

Absolutely! (And that's from a guy who has changed strings three days in a row trying to get the right feel and tone! That's an expensive re-string job!)
