STRING NOISE

Sign in to disble this ad
I have noticed for sometime now that when I pull a string, you can hear the sound of my finger hitting the string. I play like I have always played(I pull hard). Also I can hear a clicking noise when I fret the string. Do you think my pickups are too close to the strings? Should I lower the pickups or raise up the strings? I have used flats in the past and don't remember if I had that noise with them? I have emgs on my '87 g&l SB1.

Shouldn't be your pickups, if anything I'm thinking you might need to raise your action.

Raise your action and or add some relief to your neck.
With flats you can generally get a lower action without the finger or fret noise due to the higher tension of flats.
Roundwounds change the whole ball game, especially steels.

Bass is noisy. 90% of those noises that irritate you can't even be heard in a performance context.

string height

This weekend, I raised up the height of my strings and now some of the notes have no sustaining sound. They are not dead notes, just not as full as before. What do you think happened? What do I do now?
