String Question???

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a used bass and it came with stings that I really dig, but I can figure out what they are, and the seller doesn't know either.

They are basically round wound strings that are encased in this black plastic/rubber feeling coating. They feel like flat wounds when playing finger style, but are flexible so you can pop them.

These in are particular black and have gold fabric wound at the top where it goes in the tuning peg and at the bottom where the string comes through the bridge.

Does anyone have an idea of specific brand and type of string this is?

Any other suggestions on strings??...I'm playing early 80's G&L L2000Es. It seems like flat wound type strings play to the strengths of these basses. One is hog with a maple neck. The other is ash with a rosewood.

Thank You!

G&L's come with SIT Powerwounds (nickel rounds) [45105] according to the SIT. They are warm/bright strings.

The gold winding makes me think that they are rotosound 88's. Check the picture and see if they look the same. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...ngs?sku=102810
