I recently had to change a DR Hi Beam A string because it was rattling. I think the windings had loosened from the core. That was on my fretless, so it wasn't fret buzz.

I actually suspected a problem with the truss rod, but changing the string solved the problem.

But that doesn't mean that the same thing happened to your strings. In your case adjusting the action might do the trick. At least if you're changing from another type of strings with different characteristics.

Hopethis helps.

What kind of bass? Not clear on what you mean by rattle. Are you taking about rattling when playing open or fretted or what..
Could be a couple of different issues. I've never had a winding issue personally....but is def. possible.

My guess is that the tension on the new strings is a bit less and therefore not enough relief in the neck.Check the sticky on how to check this...Its really simple. If the relief checks out then...If not get it adjusted professionally (If youve never done it or afraid to)

Could be a nut issue. Sometimes changing out strings acts as a file on a plastic nut...check various threads on how to check this...if thats not it ...

I have experienced what I would call a rattle. Basically I didnt have enough tension when winding the string on the post. I simply loosened the string...put down pressure on the string between the nut and the post with one hand and winded with the other...fixed it right away.

Hope this helps...

I also had a problem wth an DR A string. I called them about it and they replaced the set.

Why not just raise the action already ? Its completely reversible so you cant do anything wrong.

Give it a go, my bet would be it works.

I recently experienced a rattling that was not fret buzz, low action etc. I was told that sometimes a string internally gets twisted (or something to that effect) and will cause all sorts of strange sounds. It will eventually go away by playing it, in my case that's exactly what happened, was gone in a few days.
