 String Recommendation for Fretless Modulus GVJ4

As long as we're on the subject, I have just purchased a GVj4 with the passive Villex Pups. It has a chechen FB, so I don't think I have to worry too much about FB wear.
The previous owner has only used La Bella Tapewounds because he is very careful (good for me!) but I really want this bass to be versatile and to have the ability to cut through the mix on a wide variety of music our band is playing.
Once again, what would you all recommend? Would you suggest nickel rounds (D'Addario XL165's)? Or perhaps a D'Addario Chrome bright. I know GHS makes some pressure wounds that might be good.
I know many like the TI Jazz Flats but I don't want my Vintage Jazz to be too jazzy so that it isn't versatile.
Again, any help, suggestions or anecdotes would be greatly appreciated!!
