string recommendations for acoustic bass

Hi everyone,

First, I want to say hello, and Wow! What a great forum to have discovered. I'm new to the group and this is the first time I am posting anything. Usually all I want to do is play, but now I find myself wanting to sit here by the computer and read all this stuff. heh eheh. So thanks for all the great info that is out here.

I have a question about strings for an acoustic bass. I looked high and low for an acoustic bass that I would like (I usually play electric or upright- but I wanted an acoustic for certain "coffee house" type venues and also just sitting around playing at home when I don't want to lug my doghouse around and like, just sitting in our loft and playing in the evening. I think I tried every brand that I could find...traveling to music stores through out several states to do so. I finally settled on a Tacoma Thunderchief because I thought it had the best punch to it. The biggest problem I find with the acoustics is that you just don't get much out of them.

It has bronze wound strings on it right now. I'm finding that they are a bit too bright for me, and I'm getting a lot of fingernoise with the round wound strings. I'm looking for something that will have less finger noise, but I'm concerned that if I switch to electric flat wound (which I love and use on my electric) that I will lose volume and tone...maybe be too "thunky" sounding. Does anybody have any advice for trying something that might be in between these two extremes?

Thanks,

Kim

I use LaBella Deep Talkin Black Tape Wounds on my Tacoma. I think they sound great. it gives a upright type of tone.

That sounds great...just what I'm looking for. I'm going to get some and try them.

Thanks,

Kim
