String recommendations for ebonal fretless

I want a Jaco-ish sound so I suppose roundwounds rather than flat. I like tapewounds but I assume tapewound and flatwound wont't mwah? Thoughts? Recommendations?

I dunno ...I use Fender 9050s flatwounds and get a great sound on my fretless. YMMV.

As much as I hate TI flats on fretted basses, they sound really nice on fretless and have plenty of muawwww...

Yes, Jaco used rounds, and he also epoxy'ed his fingerboard as well.

String technology has come a long way in the decades since.

For growl, mwah, etc., try the new Fender 9050 flats. They have growl, they have mellow, they have mwah, they are absolutely consistent string-to-string and up the neck, they are steel, not chrome, so they don't thud out after awhile, and they are relatively inexpensive.

I tried the Fender 9050 flats on my VM Jazz fretless and didn't like the tone or the tension. So when I put DR Sunbeams on my fretted, I took the EB Hybrid Slinkies off of that and put them on the fretless. Bingo -- that's the tone and feel I wanted.

I use elixirs on my ibanez SR300fl. No marks yet, I like them because I still get the sustain rounds but with just a slicker feel. I feel I can get plenty of that fretless sound. But what helped the most with that...practice...

Rotosound stainless steel. Jaco used those. Why bother with anything else?

These are the ones he used right:

I've heard good things abount pressure wounds so I wonder if these would give me almost the same mwah but a be a little easier on the fingerboard
