String Recommendations For Fender AVS '62 Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone--

Picked up a Fender American VS '62 Jazz Bass (stacked knob) in LPB. It's a 2000, an it's got the closet classic look from 2 previous owners. It's got a great nick--a "thick" C shape--never have seen one like this before, having owned a few. I dropped a few washers in the truss rod, and viola! The neck is super straight.

I'd like to put roundwound stings on it--and so because it's a Jazz and the string tension/struss rod is an issue , I'd like to hear some reccomendations for rounds that have lower tension.

I have Thomastik-Infeld flats on my P bass--love the feel and tone. Very supple, and musical. Does TI--or another manufacturer fro that matter--have round wound strings that are similar in feel and tone to the TI flats?

Thanks in advance!!

Andy.

well if you are worried about too much pull on the neck i would try DR sunbeams( nickel) or highbeams (steel)

they both have round core and with great growl which works really well for a jazz style bass.

my only other reccomendaton would be D'addarios prosteels, they are great if you are looking for a little bit more bite and more modern growl, they are quite low tension also.

To be honest, I can't address the tension issue but I'll say that TI Superalloys sound great on a jazz (IMO). I've had no neck problems on my Lakland JO with them.
