String recommendations Gibson Short Scale Basses

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings:

Looking for string recommendations for my

SG Supreme (chromes)
EB-1 (T1 Jazz Flats)
EB-3 (TI Jazz Flats)

I really dig the sound of the flats, but I can'r seem to really "dig in" when playing them.

I'm a child of the 60's and into the Gibson mudbucker sound.

Suggestions for rounds that are not too brite?

Thanks

I really disliked the Chromes on my SG Reissue. Sounded like someone had thrown a blanket over the neck. Lost so much volume and output, that I took them off and gave them away within one week.

Right now, I am loving LaBella 760FL flats (short scale) on the SG. They were a little bright at first, but have now settled down to just about perfect IMO. Nice thump when muted, but played hard (either with fingers or pick) they will push the pickups and give me just the right amount of "hair" through my amps. Love 'em.

I knew two guys who played these basses "back in the day" (late 70's). One used tapewounds the other used GHS Boomers. Both sounded good but at sonic ends of the spectrum. I preferred the Boomers but l was a card carrying member of the roundwound camp, still am I guess. Try some nickel rounds, any flavor, you might like what you hear.
