String Recommendations for Modulus Quantum 6

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. I'm a new poster to the forums, but have been reading for a while.

I need to change out the strings on my Quantum 6 string, and was looking for some recommendations.

I don't do any slap with this bass, I'm just looking for a smooth tone with killer lows that can fill a large hall.

Thanks for the help guys.

i just put a set of TI Flats on my Quantum 6 Sweetspot. TI doesn't make a long scale 6 string flat set. i gambled and bought the regular 34" scale set and got lucky. the B-string winding length was just barely long enough.

i knew if they didn't fit my Modulus, i could slap them on my 5 string G&L. make sure you can return them if you plan on taking the risk.

they sound really good on my Q6 and once they settle in they will sound even better. great string.

That's a flat wound string correct?

I've never used a flat wound on any of my basses in the past.

A flat wound will not sound as brite correct?

it is a flatwound and it won't sound that bright. however, these strings sound different than other flats to my ear. they are very full sounding with surprising detail. it's all in the mids, i guess. my Q6 has a wood fingerboard, lane poor pickup and bartolini 3 band electronics. it sounds unreal. there is no harsh, bright, zingy, tinky, whatever word you use to describe unwanted high end sound. if you do try them, tho, make sure you give them ample time to settle in. after a couple weeks they sound even better. they are expensive, tho, but i heard they last years! i got mine from juststrings.com.

I like the Dean Markley Rocco Prestia strings on my Q5 but I'm not sure if they make a 6 string set.

the tone of the low B is killer.

Plain old simple Nickel D'Addario XLs sounded fantastic on my Modulus.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm going to look into the Ti Flats.

Is anyone else running these?

Heya!

I've tried all kinds of strings on my Modulus Q6. I've finally settled on SIT Lights (NR630125L). I've been very pleased with them. Personally, I've been very underwhelmed with flats on my Modulus. Thats just for my ears. The SITs are bright from the get go but smooth out really nicely.

I've since switched to SITs on all of my basses and am convinced these are the only strings I'll ever use. They are very balanced. I never thought I could get the Modulus to sound more "Defined" but these SITs really did it. Even though the Modulus isnt as organic as many other basses, the graphite neck does seem to amplify flaws in strings. The problem I was having in the past was the EADG strings would sound great but the low B and high C just didnt sound like they were part of the set. The SITs really balance throughout the range of the instrument.

Not only are SITs fantastic sounding, they are very affordable. They are around $20 for a 6 string set.

Just my $0.02
