String Recycling

This may be a dumb question, but here goes:

If I take my strings off so I can try a different set, will the old ones still be good later? Any tips for storage?

I have D'addario Chromes on right now, but I want try some rounds again just for fun. And I think I cut my A too short, so the angle is not right and I get a kind of weird tone when I pluck the string real hard. So I want to replace it to try to isolate the problem.

I don't want to waste strings though because they are not cheap and I have heard that flats can last for years.

They should be fine, but only do it once or twice. The silk on D'Addario Chromes doesn't like to be messed with, as it is when you de-string and re-string them. Take care of your strings and they'll take care of you.
