Whenever one of my strings breaks I just replace it with another string (regardless of brand) it's a bad habit but I don't live near any stores that carries strings so I have to order them via the net. I know some people replace their whole set when just one string breaks and uses the rest as spairs, but wouldn't you have a ****load of spairs? I'm just curious

| | | | For me...
I'm one of those that if one strings fails, a whole new set goes on. I keep a full set handy that if one should go, I have a replacement to get by, but once I'm home, the other strings go on. If I have a chronic problem with one string, then I'll investigate to see what is causing the problem.
It's like tires on my car; if one goes and the other has some wear on it, I'll put 2 new tires on. I'll use the spare to get me home/or a garage, then I make the change. |

Yes, strings are "spendy," but that's the way it goes. I never complain about electric bass string prices now that I play upright, too.

I use GHS Boomer 45-100; I love the tone they give me, and they last longer than anything else I've tried. But for my 5-stringer I use Ernie Ball(can't remember what set) 45-125; they feel and sound good enough for the tone I want. Plus they actually fit on my 5er. Had a few different sets that the B-string wouldn't fit through the bridge; had to get tapered sets, and I hate tapered. Plus, I'll never use DR again. I had a set on my 5er, and two of the strings snapped the first day. Very disappointed. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
