String set for ADGC tuning?

Sign in to disble this ad
This is for my 4 string (obviously) that will not get a lot of playing time. I was wanting to restring it more as a "tenor/baritone" bass. Is there an easy way to do that without having to buy a 6 string set? I didn't want to spend a bundle on a backup bass.

Buy singles! Use gauges 145-110-85-65 if you want plenty of tension, or 135-105-80-60 if you like things a bit looser. Or, the former if you're on "34 and the latter if you're on "35.

I think my question might have created some confusion.

I have a 34" scale bass and want to tune it like the upper 4 strings on a 6 string set. I believe the example you gave would be if I wanted to tune it ADGC an octave lower. I believe string gauges closer to 20-80 might work, but don't know where to get them.

Ha ha, oh right.

Juststrings.com seems to sell singlestrings. You're in the US, I can't help you much one that one!

I just purchased a set of Labella deep talkin roundwounds. I found a 5 string set strung EADGC. That way if I retune the bass to normal EADG, I have that string available.
