String similar to old gray silk Fender 8250

I have a set of these that came with a used '08 P bass. They have the tapered E string and I believe they are nickels. From what I've heard, the new ones are not at all the same. Anyone have experience with these that can recommend something similar?

D'addario XL nickels in my humble opinion.

If you check Ebay, you will see the old packages displayed for the earlier Fender strings ... inquire of the seller if in fact it is that design package, and it is still factory sealed .. they are out there, you just need to be careful to confirm that you are getting what is pictured ... sometimes they simply do not update the stock photos

Nothing sounds like the old black silk Fender nickels. They were voiced perfectly for P basses--lots of low mids, not a lot of highs.

They also were a little more flexible than most other middle of the road strings.

Soundwise, only Boomers are close nowadays.

OT slightly, but what were the green silk ended flats?
There's some on an old '64 P bass a mate's got, they sound & feel lovely, but we don't know what brand they are.
Also we're wondering what modern flats would be similar.....?
I'll start a thread soon, but thought I'd check here 1st

The old Fender flats had silk only at the ball end, none at the tuners. Very dry and thumpy sound. GHS Precision flats are probably the closest to these after they break in. Maybe La Bellas, but La Bellas keep more high end.

The new Fender flats have the colored ball ends like Chromes have. Silk at both ends.

I'm a big fan of old 7250's also. I've gotten used to the new fender strings..
