String soundbytes on websites

Sign in to disble this ad
I apologize if this is another one of those "use the search button" queries, but I couldn't find a thing.

Is Rotosound the only string maker whose website actually has soundbytes of the different strings in action? (And the basslines in those little bytes are pretty cool.)

(I know basstasters has a strings section with new and old strings).

Any reason why more string makers don't put soundbytes of various strings on their website?

While I'm not really a try-before-you-buy type (my current favorite bass, head, and cab were all purchased site unseen), with strings the only well to tell if you like them is to try a set yourself. I suppose sound samples of strings might be helpful, but to me how a string feels is nearly as important as how it sounds, so it wouldn't change my buying habits.

Believe me, I like trying out all kinds of new strings (yeah, it can get costly), but for me, the soundbytes on Roto's site really illustrate the kind of tonal differences between, say, the RS55s and the RS66s.

Feel is important in strings but tone is too. I like the feel of Ernie Ball slinkys, but I think they sound really dull and uninteresting.
