String storage

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi -

I just put new half rounds on my 60th anniversary P-bass but decided - for now - that I want to put Rotosound round wounds on it. Will my half wounds be ok to put back on in the future if I store them in a box for a few months?

Shouldn't be an issue as long as they are clean and dry when you put them away. I use an old lunch box to keep used strings in.

If they are clean and dry as is, putting them in a sealed ziplock would be a reasonable step to take.

I keep used strings in zip-lock freezer bags. I wipe them down, and roll them up and stick them in the bag. Be sure to write on the bag with a sharpie marker the brand, gauge, and approximate age of the strings for future use. I like to experiment with different strings often so it is not unusual for me to have a few spare used sets lying around so the info keeps me keep them all straight.
