String suggestion - opinions please?

So I was taking my bass over to a guy who is an electronics whiz to look at my bass for improvements (wiring, pups, etc.).

I bought a warwick rockbass and it still has the orig. strings on it (which i have no idea what they are). We have been looking at ways to improve tone of the bass, so he suggested changing the strings.

He suggested i buy the Elixr Nanoweb Light gauge. I play this through an ampeg SVT-CL / 810 stack (and am looking to keep the sound)...he also suggested if not those, mabye bluesteel? (cant remember for sure if thats the right name)

I used to play Elixr strings on my Taylor guitar, but i used the polywebs, and would use NOTHING else....but am not sure how these perform or sound on the bass...or even the difference between poly and nano on the bass string (as far as tone), or how the size will affect that...

I play mostly rock music, but am taking lessons where the instructor has a heavy jazz influence (which my friend thought light strings might be appropriate for chord shapes, etc.)

What are your suggestions on this setup, and the sizes etc?

Thanks!
