string suggestions for my Lakland bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Lakland Skyline 55-01 5 string bass and I want to replace strings on it. It has a string through body bridge and I'm having trouble finding a set that fits properly where the winding on end of the string doesn't sit on or near the nut. No one near me seems to have extra long scale strings in stock so I'm looking online. Any suggestions for strings and places to buy them? I've used the rotosound 66s before and liked them, but I'm open to suggestions. I play rock covers, nothing too heavy.. standard bar fare.

thanks

The rotos will work but the silk wont clear the nut if you try to string them through the body, you have to string them through the bridge. Any extra long scale set should work. JustStrings.com is the best place to look. Go check it out. Hope that helps. I love me some Laklands

My favorite strings for my 55-01 are DR Hi-Beams 45/65/85/105/135, non-member tapered. They fit fine through-body even though it makes no difference which way you string the bass.

I like DR Black Beauties 45-125 on my 55-02 (very similar bass to the 55-01). They are like JTE's suggestion above, maybe a little less bright.

Any DR string will be long enough.

Be careful with the dr's because I tried some bootzillas on my 55-02 and I had to string the E through the bridge because the winding didnt clear the nut. All of the other strings worked fine through the body though. It probably varys a tad from set to set though, so I may have just gotten an odd ball set.

That is weird. Any DR set I have ever had has been plenty long enough.

Yeah I know me too but for some reason the E wasnt long enough to go through the body. Like I said it was probably just an odd ball set.

I wound up picking up a set of DR Hi-beams locally which fit fine.
