string suggestions please help

hi. i am going to get another bass in a short while but the real question is what i string it with. it will most likely be a 34" scale.

my band uses the tuning B F# B E so i need to know what gauge is good to tune it to that. or should i just get a 5 string set and put the bottom four on?

Yes, use a 5 string set and save the "extra" string. I'd go with a set that tops out with a .125, but .130's are much easier to find.

I agree...try the Elixir coated mediums pretty good and can take a lot of wear and tear.
