can anyone recommend the best kind of strings to put on a rickenbacker 4003. i just obtained one and am open to any suggestions?

I'd suggest something with a light gauge. I think 4003's have stronger necks than the 4001's, but I'm not completely sure on that one.

I run D,Addario XL170's 45-100 they sound awesome on my Ric.
If I can't get those I use ErnieBall super Slinky's 45-100 they are nice also.

I run Pyramid Gold Flat Wound strings on my 4003. If flats will do it for you and you can afford a quality set of strings (about $60) you won't be disappointed.

depends on what sound yer lookin for.the round,tubby,Paul MacCartney sound=flats..growlling trebely Chris Squire sound=rounds.
