String Suggestions for a Turner Renaissance 5

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,
I'm lookin for string suggestions for my Turner Ren 5 (35" strung through body). It's currently wearing a set of TI Acousticores but I just can't get used to the feel of them.

I have been pondering a few options but I wanted to see if I could gather more info before making a decision.

So . . . TI flats are too short which is too bad because I really like those strings.

I am curious about The Rotosound Tru Bass 88s but I am concerned that I would need to file the nut to get them to fit.

GHS Tapewounds are another otpion but I don't know if they would be long enough.

Status black nylon? DR flats?

So, does anyone out there have experience with these strings/basses? You input would be greatly appreciated.

jibreel?

TI flats are available in super long scale, 36":

But have you tried regular scale TIs? I recently tried super long INFELDS on an MTD Z5, 35" scale, and trhey were actually a bit too long. The regular 34" would have done it. But I'm thinking because you are string through the bridge, the 36" might be just right.

Yes, but when I put a set on last night the B and E tapered short of the nut

Get some super longs, sell me the used strings for a discount (assuming you're not going to use them anymore), and go on with your happy tone...

The gentleman from GHS tells me that the speaking length on the Tapewounds is 37" which, I believe, is the same as the TIs (not extra long).

GHS Precision Flats are made to fit up to 36 inch scales. You would have to order the B string seperately. TI makes a super long set as well as D'Addario in Chromes, I believe.
LaBella makes a set of their tapewounds in extra long. The best price on those would be direct from Carvin, even with the shipping.
never could stand those phospher strings either. Good luck.

Thanks a bunch to fretlessguy and jibreel. I'm going to check on an extra long set of the LaBellas today.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
