String tension

Does anyone know a good roundwound bass string with low tension? I play with a light touch and most tensions are killing me.
Thnx.

DR Sunbeams are king of the low tension strings. Round core = low tension bliss. And of course, the lighter the string, the less tension. If you want to get even lower, look at the balanced .090 set from Circle K.

@mmbongo
Would you recommend these for an '79 stingray and a classic stingray?

Can't think of any reason Sunbeams wouldn't work well on a Ray. They are nickels... if you prefer stainless I understand that DR High Beams are similar in tension but stainless instead of nickel. Try Sunbeams on the 79 and High Beams on the Classic (or vice-versa) and see which you prefer.

A stiff string at a lighter gauge works similarly to going to a different string with different construction/materials.

Is the only objection to the strings you have the tension that's on them? Perhaps just getting a lighter gauged set . . .

My main issue is being able to slap effectively, bend the strings where necessary without losing fatness although I've been using highbeams for years they are a little too scooped for my taste. Along with my 'Rays, I also have a Marcus V.

If you only slightly drop your tension but get a more flexible string you may be well served in having to balance the characteristics you do.

I think you'll be extremely pleased with Sunbeams.
