string tension help

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone help me with this? I am trying to find the tension of the ghs bass boomers round wound 40-95 light guage that I have on my bass right now. I was thinking of putting the D'Addario EXL 170's nickel wound 45-100 regular light guage on for a change. Will the EXL's have more pressure on the neck or not enough to amount to anything? Thanks in advance.

I think the difference would be negligible and easily fixed with a slight truss rod adjustment. If you're not sure about truss rod adjustments, watch this video: Setting Up Your Bass Guitar: Adjusting The Truss Rod (Step 1 of 4) - YouTube

Look up your gauges in this chart;

D'Addario Tension Chart.pdf

Same gauges vary little from one maker to the next by way of tension . . .
