String thru/taperwound for new Fender bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

I know this has been up here before - I've tried the search function, but couldn't come up with an answer pointing in one direction. So here we go:

I've got a 2010 Fender American Standard Jazz and want to make use of the string-thru option. To me it seems that the grooves in the E and A saddles are designed for the use of taperwound strings. I realize long "regular" strings would work, but I would like to try out taperwound strings, strung thru body, for this bass.

Who makes taperwound strings for the new hi-mass string-thru Fender bridge? Any recommendations (roundwounds)?

Thanks!

Well, you could always go with the standard Fender taperwounds, Which are the 8250s I believe. I use SIT Taperwounds for my roundwounds :

I have also used Carvin taperwounds, which are supposedly LaBella rebranded sets:

My preference these days is the SIT set, which are long lasting, sound really good, and have a nice price.

Try the Rene Martinez signature set from GHS. The E and A are taperwound and the taper is long enough to accommodate a string-thru. (gotta watch out for short-tapers.)

I'm not a big fan of GHS, but these feel pretty good to me. Other GHS strings I found to be too tense and inflexible.

They are a nickel/iron alloy. The sound is round and warm, but not dull by any means.

Rene was Stevie Ray Vaughn's guitar tech for many years if the name is not familiar to you.

Brilliant guys, I'll buy a set of 8250s and see how they work out.

Thanks.

I believe DR's taperwounds (longnecks?) are designed to be used with string thru body bridges.

You could also do Ken Smiths or LaBella Slappers/Hard Rockin' Steels.
