String too long?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have just bought some Standard Guage Rotosound Swing 66 strings.

On my E string, the peg winds past the red tape. Also on the bridge side, the tape rides up a little on the saddle. My string sounds pretty dead. Is this the reason why? I cut back the tape so it wasn't touching the saddle, but the string still sounds dead. Maybe a bad string?

This is a Standard, MIM, Fender P bass. Are these strings too long? This is not a short scale bass. Do I just need to switch brands?

I don't want to buy several sets of strings just to experiment…..
