String weight question

Sign in to disble this ad
Good day to you all. my question is, does the weight of your strings have a big effect on the overall tone? ive heard about a few people replacing strings. example, D and G with heavier ones (or lighter), why?
thanks

I think you mean the gauge or size of the string and not it's actual weight. To use a heavier D or G string would give them a thicker sound if that is what you are looking for while a smaller gauge might be better for slap, pop or maybe solo bass work. It is all dependant on what sounds good to your ear and what feels good under your fingers. Hope this has helped!
