Stringing question - E string too long

Sign in to disble this ad
I put some LaBella tapewounds on my G&L L2000 last night. The E string was a little too long and about half a winding of the nylon coated part went on the machine. There was an explicit warning on the bag that only the silk portion should go into the machine head but there's really nothing I can do.

Question:

1) Is the warning that the string will "almost certainly break" applicable in my case since the nylon part went only a short way, not all the way around the machine head?

2) Is the problem maybe less severe with the tapewounds, which are flat and coated?

Thanks,
Andrew

I don't know specifically, but this has happened to me many times with roundwounds, and it never caused me any serious problems or breakage. Just throw 'em on and see what happens.
