Stringing through body

Sign in to disble this ad
Should this be in setup?

Anyway,

I decided I wanted to change out the strings on my L-2500 to nickels, so I bought myself a set of D"Addario XLs. Went I went to string them up, they were too short to string through the body of the G&L. Fortunately, the bridge allows them to be string in the conventional means also, so I just strung them through the back of the bridge.

The point is, I didn't really notice any preformance change. Can anyone offer their opinions as to why I should drop a little extra change for a longer string that I can string through body?

I don't have a bolt-on strings-through-body, chas. But on my neck-through-body, the sustain is clearly increased going through-body as opposed to when I tried it bridge-only.

It all depends on the rest of your set up. It should improve the sustain, but if you have a poor amp, or were using old strings (I know you aren't, but it's just an example) then you wouldn't notice the difference.

Also having a bolt on may well be the reason... If it aint broke there's no need to fix it, your bass sounds fine, so don't change it, but you could look into why it isn't soiunding so great (I reckon on the amp myself.)
