strings for 1979 Rickenbacker 4001

Hi,
I just bought a used 1979 4001 and wonder what kind of strings and guage is most suitable for Ric sound.
Please advice.

I always liked the sound of Rotosound Swing Bass standard guage on a Ric..105-45

Depends on what sound you like and what kind of strings your fingers like.

I use D'Addario Pro Steels on mine. Of course my Rick is my attack bass.

GHS Boomers. They aren't too zingy. Great sounding strings on a Ric IMHO.

Ok friends, so you will go for steel and I guess a heavy guage also ... is that correct.

Stainless is rough to the touch and rough on your frets. The 4001 was not meant for high tension strings. I really wouldn't put heavy gauge strings on it. You'll get the dreaded "Tailpiece Lift".

Medium guage 105-45 would be fine..
