strings for 34.5" scale

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys.

i've had my G3 for about a year now, and im thinking id like to try some new strings. Having always paid someone else to change my strings for me, id like to save my money and do it myself.

but my question is.. will i run into problems going with standard length strings on a 34.5" scale bass? or am i better off going with specific length strings? i know the difference probably isnt much, but it could be an expensive mistake to make.

A G3 accepts normal string lengths, don't overreact to it's intimidating size and string through bridge, just give it normal strings.

Normal strings are designed for 34" scale, so 34.5 would be longer, not shorter.

I use regular "long scale" strings for my 34.5" scale bass.

Several string brands will work on at least up to 35" scale. I know Dean Marley, DR and Lakland strings all come to mind. So All those would work for you.

Though I'd imagine an awful lot designed for 34' would likely work... I don't know for sure.

Just cut the end a half inch less.

They certainly won't break. This only happened to me one time with a stainless steel Fender 9050 flatwound. I'm sure that string had a problem right from the package, as I had to re-tune it several times. After only two weeks of playing it snapped.
