Strings for a 55-02

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi to all.

Im in the search for the perfect string for a Lakland 55-02.
Im more of a stainless steel kind of guy, but havent found the perfect set for my lakkie, mostly due to the scale and that I string trough the body.

So far I have tried Smiths, Foderas and Carvins. Nothing gets me happy so far.

Im a big fan of La Bella Hard Rocking still, but they dont fit and havent been able to find an extra long scale set.

Any recomendations? DO Blue Steels fit? SR2000s? Any other?

(Btw, I hate elixirs)

I'm on the same quest.

DRs fit. I'm using fat beams on my Lakland DJ5 and the fit great and sound great. I'm wasn't super happy with the Low-B, so I swapped it out for a sadowsky nickel .130, but I'm very picky in that regard.

Sadowsky makes my favorite low-B but it has to be strung through the bridge. So far I've found the difference between through-bridge and through-body to be very very very very VERY subtle.

La Bella Hard Rockin Steels also fit if you go through-bridge.

I tried with a Set of La Bella HRS, but didnt fit even trough the bridge.. the last winding was just behind the nut..

I talked to a La Bella Distributor, and they said they could get me a set of Extra longs in about 3 weeks

Wierd. Mine are the standard length and they just barely fit. For what its worth, I didn't really like them on this bass, I switched back to the fat beams right away.

I'm going to try some D'addario XL super longs next.

What were the fodera strings like? Good B?

The Foderas were good, but the E string sounded really weird on the the first frets.. I believe that string came a little bad.

Do you like the HRS on other basses?

So far I love the HRS on my Modulus, they are a good match.

As far as DŽAddarios XL... I dont like them on any bass. And they seem to die quite fast.

I liked the HRS a lot on a sadowsky metro.

IME XLs are just a smooth mellow sounding string with some sweet brightness ... I've always thought they were pretty good, and pretty "polished" sounding. Its OK they die fast, they are cheap!

DR's work fine. I use Sunbeams, but the length is correct.

Did get a bad string in one 4 string set of DR's whough. Hand made huh? Something tells me to prefer precision CNC machines!
