Question Strings for 70s P-Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I've come round to changing my strings on my 77 P for the first time since I've had it. It has DiMarzio Pickups and a Parallel Switching Circuit. I'm swamped with choices of strings!!!

I play the one bass for jazz, soul, motown and funk so I need something versatile, which will sound OK for all these styles! Any ideas please would be very much appreciated!

DR Sunbeam Strings .045-.105

That's what I use on my 72 P-bass modified just like yours.

I use it for all styles of music.

FLats or Rounds

For flats go with the Thomastik Jazz Flats. That's what I use on my P and you will get a wonderful tone for the styles you play.

For rounds go with the DR Sunbeams.

Why not try them both over time and see what you like best?

+1 on TI Flats. I had TIs on my Skyline Glaub and the range of tones was incredible. TIs have great midrange prescence, and aren't muddy or boomy. If they slapped well, they'd be the perfect string!

+1.

Have Chromes on my P, but I'm very interested in trying the Sadowsky flats.
