Strings to add more bottom to Stingray

Recently acquired an 87 2 band Ray and jammed with it tonight. Damn, that thing growls. Alittle too much, infact.

With the EQ flat and some bass boost it still sounds too hi-midrangy. It cuts through the mix way too much for my liking.

According to the previous owner, its strung w d'addario nickels. Do you think a narutally scooped string(hi beams) would be a good match?

Im thinking either fatbeams or black beauties.

The mid sound your hearing is the frequency the preamp is modeled for. I had the same problem with one I bought but I didn't have the heart to mod it so I sold it. I've come to the conclusion that I don't like mm preamps way too much mid and not enough of everything else

Switch to Lo-Riders or GHS Boomers. That's what I use and that'll do it.

Changing to a different set of roundwounds isn't necessarily going to solve your issue. You should try a set of flatwounds.
