Strings for Brice HXB-405 fretless

Hi all. This is my first fiver and my first fretless. I don't have it in front of me, but it's also a "project." Rondo says it is 35" scale. It has string-thru-bridge setup and a rosewood fretboard. Pups are stock and appear to be imitation Barts or EMG "J" style although I haven't heard them. The preamp is shot and I will be replacing the preamp/electronics to make it all work, active/passive.

Anyone familiar with this bass and have string suggestions for me?

I love the sound and feel of Sadowsky Black Label Flats on my 4's. This fretless will be used for jazz and light rock. All finger style and I have only been playing for a year. Amp is a TC Electronic RH450 and cab will likely be the RS210.

I'd like to try GHS Pressurewounds which are wound to 38" (according to GHS) but I haven't measured the bass yet to see if it really needs extra-longs or if the GHS will fit. Starting on it this weekend.

Thanks for any input.

Mark

I use Pressurewounds and have them on three of may basses, including a fretless. I have used them on my body thru Fenders, Which while 34 inch scales the body thru needs up to an extra inch to function. They should work for your bass if they are 38 inch windings.
This link is from www.bpstrings.com, and gives you the windings for the various windings and what scales they fit. If you have a 35 inch scale then I'd suggest 38 inch windings just to be on the safe side. 38 inch windings usually will work up to 36 inch scales.

Good luck with your search. You may also checkout some of the D'Addario extra long sets, and some others as well. Some brands even offer 35 inch scales per se.

Thanks, Fretlessguy. I'm kinda flying blind here. So, how would you decribe the sound of a fretless with Pressurewounds compared to other flatwounds?
